  • What is efreedom.com?

    eFreedom.com is a simplified remix of multiple stackexchange.com websites. The data is used with permission and proper attribution. We have done a number of things that we think add value to this data set, namely:

    • Simplification of the user interface. We show only the accepted answer (or highest voted answer if no answer has been accepted yet). We removed the sidebar, comments and vote counts in order to minimize distraction. This gets you to your answer and on to your project quickly.
    • Translation of the content. We have translated the content into over 20 languages. This allows translation even with javascript disabled and in environments where toolbars / plugins are disabled.
    • Google custom search. We think Google provides the best search on the planet right now, so we have integrated it into our website.
    • Social Networking. Share answers with your friends and co-workers.
    • Improved layout for mobile devices
    • Related questions with snippets so you don't have to click through to see if the question is what you want
    • We provide a link below the answer that allows the user to see any additional answers for the question, but these are hidden by default to minimize distraction.
    • More exposure for stackexchange.com websites. By remixing the content, linking back without nofollow and providing translations, we expose stackexchange.com to more earthlings than if efreedom.com did not exist.

  • I want to send you some feedback, how do I do that?

  • I want to ask a question that isn't answered here, how do I do that?

    efreedom.com does not yet support asking new questions, instead we HIGHLY recommend stackexchange.com for new questions. The communities there are awesome, and we are confident you will get a good answer.

  • Why do you have ads on the site?

    The advertisements you see help pay to host the content and for the engineering costs in gathering and translating the content. Believe us when we say that this is not a huge money making scheme, it really is just a site to help non-English speakers get access to this content. Someday we might break even, but it is not a top concern.

  • Why bother translating the data when people can just use the Google translate toolbar?

    The performance of translating "on the fly" slows down the user for the same quality translation as pre-translating. We think the performance of pre-translating allows non-English speakers to get access to this valuable data much faster.

  • The translations have some problems in them

    Machine translation is still not up to par with what a human can do. We believe that with future rapid increases in processing power and the increase in software to take advantage of this power that machine translation will eventually catch up with human translation. Until then, we will keep updating our translations to give non English speakers a chance at accessing this valuable data.
